Before & after

Prep is most of the job.

A kitchen of original oak cabinets — doors, drawer fronts and boxes — taken to white. Same kitchen, same layout. Nothing torn out.

Before

Kitchen with original oak cabinets around the sink, before painting

After

The same kitchen, cabinets and drawers painted white

Cabinets take more prep than anything else in a house. Kitchen grease has to come off before anything will stick, oak grain needs sealing or it shows through, and the finish has to stand up to being wiped down for years. That's where the time goes, not the top coats.

Services

What gets done.

One job at a time, inside or out. Patching, sanding and caulking are in the price. No change orders halfway through.

Walls & ceilings

Rooms that need a refresh. Furniture covered, floors papered, edges cut by hand. Holes and cracks filled before the first coat.

Kitchen cabinets

Doors, drawer fronts and boxes, taken from dated oak to a colour that suits the room. Prepped so the finish stands up to being wiped down.

Deck staining

Decks, steps and railings, stained or sealed. Needs warm, dry weather, so it books up for summer.

Stairs, railings & trim

Baseboards, casings, doors, stair rails and spindles. Slow work, and it's the first thing people notice.

Closets & built-ins

Shelving, rods and the inside of the door. Small jobs, done on their own or tacked onto a room.

Furniture refinishing

Small pieces: dressers, side tables, chairs. Sanded back and repainted or restained.

Drywall & mudding

Nail pops, cracks, water stains and patchwork mudded, sanded and blended before paint goes on.

Backsplash installation

Kitchen backsplashes set and grouted, usually as the last step of a cabinet job.

Process

How a job runs.

No deposit before you've seen a number in writing.

Get in touch

Form or email, either works. Photos help. Not required.

Walkthrough

Measuring up, and a straight answer about what needs fixing before paint.

Written quote

A fixed price, itemised, usually back the next day.

Prep and paint

Everything covered and masked before a lid comes off. Cleaned up every evening.

Final walkthrough

Room by room, together. Touch-ups get done before the invoice, not after.

About

One painter, start to finish.

On The Roll Painters is new. It's run by Lexis Carter, who does all of the work.

No foreman, no crew rotating through, nobody in the house you haven't already met. One job at a time, so yours isn't getting rushed to reach the next one.

Previous jobs have run from a single closet to a whole kitchen, with stairwells, railings and decks along the way.

Inside work carries on through the winter while the exterior crews sit still, so a room that's been waiting since the fall can get booked now. Decks and doors wait for the warm months.

If a finish fails because of how it went on, it gets fixed. That's the warranty. There's no small print under it.

Taking on work now.
